A quick Chicago visit guide: A good time in the city

I was back in Chicago for work and play this weekend. I made new memories and got to experience some new places! If you’re anything like me, when you go anywhere you’re always looking for the best things to do and the best places to go. Even if it’s not my first time I always want it to be my best time. Chicago really is a great place to visit. I know sometimes the windy city gets a bad wrap but visiting is a good idea. During the peak season you can have a really good time and it’s the perfect time to visit. The cold weather is definitely a turn off but during spring break and the summer season the weather is perfect. The city has a ton of outdoor festivals, music festivals, and top attractions such as Wrigley field, millennium park, grant park and you can find a boat tour with great views. I’m still determined to get to Taste of Chicago sooner rather than later. If you’re ever in Chicago and looking for some places to check out here’s what I would recommend.

Lou Malnati’s

If you’re looking for some good deep dish pizza in the Chicago area I highly recommend Lou Malnati’s. You can find locations all around the city. They have vegan deep dish pizza options as well as deep dish pizzas for the meat lovers. I order “The Lou” deep dish. “The Lou” is a deep dish Spinach mix pizza with mushrooms and sliced Roma tomatoes covered with three cheeses, on a garlic Buttercrust! Every Lou Malnati’s pizza is handmade from scratch and believe me when I say…you can tell. It’s worth the wait! As soon as I touched down and checked into my hotel I was back out the door for my deep dish experience. Fortunately it was only about a 20 minute wait to be seated. That being said, it was a Thursday evening so I’m not sure how packed it is on the weekends. There’s also an option to order ahead and pick it up to avoid the most popular time when it get’s hectic. Either way make sure you put this spot on your Chicago must try list. This place is special and in my experience the best way to enjoy a good deep dish.

Navy Pier

The Navy Pier is a classic Chicago staple. Although I’d been to Chicago a couple times before, this was my first time going to Navy Pier. The Navy Pier is free admission and has the best spots near the water. The weather was so nice and perfect for experiencing the Pier. Navy Pier has plenty of boat ride options, restaurants, bars and the magnificent Centennial Wheel. It’s a one of a kind experience. Soaring views of the Chicago skyline and Lake Michigan? Yes please!

Offshore Rooftop

This rooftop has a great view! Offshore Rooftop is located at Chicago’s Navy Pier. Offshore Rooftop offers views of Lake Michigan and the city’s skyline. Offshore is one of the many restaurants located on the Navy Pier. They offer a full menu for brunch, dinner and they have a full service bar. This is a great spot to relax and take in the views. They have indoor and outdoor seating for the warmer months so you can enjoy the good weather.

Batter and Berries

For a causal and delicious breakfast option. Check out Batter and Berries. This breakfast cafe offers daily specials and a large variety of breakfast options. Some of the options include French toast flights, chicken and biscuits with gravy, chicken fajita omelets and so much more. This place gets busy fast! I went on a Friday and it was about a 30 minute wait to be seated. The food was worth it. I would definitely go back. Fortunately they have 2 locations ( I went to the Lincoln Avenue location) Also it’s BYOB so if you like a good mimosa be sure to bring some bubbly with you.

Menu Recommendations:
-Caramel French Toast
-Cluck and Gravy

Two Locations:
2748 N. Lincoln Avenue Chicago, IL 60614
3462 Vollmer Road Olympia Fields, IL 60461

The Hoxton

For nighttime vibes..I recommend The Hoxton in downtown Chicago. They have a beautiful lobby and restaurant area. The hotel has a full-service bar and a DJ on Friday nights. The DJ played a mix of old school hip hop, pop and Afro beats. It is definitely a vibe. It’s a great option for drinks and good music.

Level Two Restaurant

If you’re in the Chicago area and you’re looking for an American dining experience check out Level Two. Level Two restaurant is located on the 2nd floor of Hyatt Centric Chicago Magnificent Mile and offers a culinary experience in the heart of the city. The restaurant features contemporary American cuisine. It offers a range of dishes for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, as well as a weekend brunch menu. The restaurant also has a bar area where guests can enjoy cocktails, wine, and beer.

Menu Recommendations:
Loch Duart Salmon
Chicken Gyro Style Bowl

Accommodations

Canopy by Hilton is located in the heart of Chicago. Although the amenities are limited, the customer service is good and it’s located near the best restaurants. This hotel offers a warm and welcoming environment. This hotel is a great way to experience the city because of it’s prime location to the top Chicago attractions.

I always like visiting Chicago because they have a ton of food options, activities and some great warm weather in the summer.
