Head wraps might be my new obsession. They represent so much history. I’m constantly learning and embracing my blackness!
Did you know black women used the folds in their headscarves to communicate coded messages to one another that their masters could not understand? I think that fact alone is just beyond amazing.
Head wraps were considered symbols of status, marriage, and family lineage. During the Slave Trade, they were one of the few cultural pieces enslaved Africans were able to bring to America.
I love to see other black woman wearing their head wraps. I love to see little black girls in their head wraps. It’s just so beautiful to see! Anything that embraces your culture that you wear proudly is a lovely thing. There’s no doubt that our culture is one of a kind. Our culture is so strong and we always turn lemons into lemonade!
P.S. it’s still #blacklivesmatter even if your feed is back to normal
