Being a content creator is more challenging than most people think. It’s a lot more that just taking pretty pictures. One thing I’m learning about this social media marketing industry is that you don’t get what you don’t ask for. It’s important to be aware of your value and your worth when pitching to brands. But how do you even find the brands in order to pitch and start getting paid? Well I’m glad you asked…let’s talk about it!
Finding brands to pitch to can be challenging. I’ve dealt with this myself but now more than ever I’ve been able to pitch multiple brands on a weekly basis. How do I do it?!
First, I start with home. What do I mean by that, I mean I go around my house and look at the everyday products that I use. I make of list of all those brands, do my research on those brands, find their contact information and I pitch to them. Crazy right? Well the truth is that’s the absolute best brands to pitch to. Why? Because these are products that you are already using. The products are already a part of your story and it doesn’t get any more authentic than that!
Next, I study other content creators. What do I love about their content? How are they executing campaigns? What brands are they working with? If I see another influencer working with a brand that fits my story, I can reach out to that brand for a potential partnership. Now I know for sure that brand works with content creators. I don’t have to worry about wasting my time with brands that aren’t interested.
Another way to find brands to pitch to is by using brand apps such as Insense, Activate, Trend…the list goes on and on. These apps are designed to find you brand partnerships. You can go through the app or you can search those apps for companies that are searching for content creators just like you. Either way it’s a win win!
Now let’s shift the focus a bit, who are you following. I ask this because your followers can also be a good way to find brands to work with. Something that is important when it comes to being a content creator is paying attention to trends and current events. The people that you follow are posting their everyday lives. Pay attention to what they are posting and use that to inspire your pitch life. Let me give you a example. Someone you follow posts a pic out at a new happy hour spot in the city. Does that location need extra social media advertisement? Do they have a PR contact? Maybe you can pitch to them and do a collaboration. Maybe the drink your follower posted at happy hour was a margarita. Have you ever thought about pitching to a Tequila company? What about that follower who is always posting their morning coffee or tea. Have you ever reached out to a coffee or tea company about a potential partnership? These are things that can open up so many more doors of opportunity for you. The partnerships are there, you just have to find them!
