Things to do in San Antonio TX: Weekend Attractions

Another month, another brand trip!  I headed out of town this weekend for a quick brand trip that lead me to downtown San Antonio. It was a great place to spend the weekend and my husband and I had a good time. I hadn’t been to San Antonio in years and I hadn’t experienced all that this Texas history packed city has to offer since I was a kid. It felt right on time and it ended up being the perfect place for us to reconnect. Who knew the charm of this little city would be the place we’d make some fun memories? Since our time was pretty limited and technically it was a work trip we didn’t knock out a bunch of activities but we did get to hear about the rich history on a guided tour, eat some great food, and enjoy the San Antonio river walk. We stayed in the heart of San Antonio at The Omni Mokara Hotel and Spa. Mokara is the only Forbes four star hotel in San Antonio. The best things about this hotel…The spa, the location, and the city views! The spa is considered one of the best in San Antonio and it’s the perfect way to relax. Services include massage therapy, couples massages, body treatments , facials and more. They have private sanctuary lounges and facilities for men and women. Also the service is great and nothing beats complimentary champagne in my book! It’s a good place to relax individually and as a couple. We stayed in the river view room with a private balcony. We could see the San Antonio riverwalk right from our balcon. It felt like I was at the San Antonio botanical garden with all of the greenery. It made for a nice little view with vibrant colors at night and overall great outdoors in the downtown area. The Omni Mokara Hotel and Spa also has a rooftop pool located on the 8th floor which we had the pleasure  of enjoying. The rooftop pool is one the best places in the hotel to enjoy the views. Overall the Omni Mokara Hotel and Spa is filled with character, great service and it’s in a prime location next to all of the popular attractions.

On of the very popular attractions in San Antonio is of course the riverwalk. Go Rio offers the tour guide river cruises. The tickets are very affordable. General tickets are $14.50 for adults and 8.50 for kids. The river cruises are a huge tourist attraction and it’s a great way to learn about the history behind the city. You’ll be transported by boat and taken to historic site after historic site and really learn about the local culture. The entire cruise is only about 30 minutes and worth the money.

If you’re like me then where and what to eat when you’re out of town is very important! The first place we ate in San Antonio was Luna Rosa! It wasn’t far from our hotel and Luna Rosa is Guy Fieri approved (if you know, you know) so we had to try it. Luna Rosa is a Puerto Rican grill and Tapas restaurant with a great happy hour and live music. They have a full bar and they had a live DJ on Friday night when we went. It was very clear when we walked in that it was the place to be on Friday evenings. Everyone was having a great time, the drinks were flowing and the food was good! I ordered the El Orocovis. Chicken served with beans and plantains (which were cooked to perfection) We also ordered the Mofongo and of course 2 margaritas! Luna Rosa is a great happy hour spot. I recommend checking it out if you’re in the San Antonio area.

If you’re in the mood for authentic Mexican food check out Paloma Blanca Mexican Cuisine. It’s a great spot for the whole family. They serve fresh guacamole, made to order and prepared at your table. Which is one of the best ways to have guacamole right? It was really good! I ordered the chicken enchiladas but after tasting my husbands food I highly recommend the MAR Y TIERRA. This chicken and shrimp dish was really good. We also had the ’09 margaritas made with Patron Reposado which came highly recommended from our waiter. This place is a San Antonio gem that I would absolutely visit again.

If you’re interested in scenery with your breakfast, you can checkout Domingo on the riverwalk. Domingo is basic dining with a not so basic view. This restaurant is located in the Canopy Hilton hotel, They have a great patio and a nice atmosphere. As you dine around native plants and natural wonders you can watch the boats go by in the river. I recommend the Cantarito Bowl it’s made with Tequila, Orange Liqueur, Fresh Lime, Orange Juice, Agave and Grapefruit Soda. It’s a great option since they don’t have a Mimosa Carafe.

For the vibes, head over to Elsewhere Garden Bar and Kitchen. This popular beer garden has great leafy scenery, porch swings and classic comfort food. This is a great spot to hangout and enjoy some food and drinks. The drinks are beer and wine based and the food menu consist of burgers, sandwiches, chicken tenders and fries. We checked out Elsewhere on Saturday and they had a great DJ playing 90’s R&B and hip hop with a mix of other old skool classics. If this sounds like something you’d be into don’t hesitant to try out this spot. You will have the best time, fun was had. I would definitely go back.

I know that San Antonio has so much more to offer but with it being such a short trip we only got to experience some of it. All the things I shared are good options, especially if your stay is a short one. Some other things you may want to checkout on your visit if you have the time:

San Antonio Zoo

San Antonio Museum of Art

Seaworld San Antonio

Interactive Exhibits

Botanical Gardens

Six Flags Fiesta Texas

Largest Mexican Market
