Traveling to Tulum: Things for your visit

I decided to spend some of my birthday in Tulum and for good reason. It was a really good option. Fortunately my birthday is in September which isn’t the high season of travel so I was able to really enjoy the peacefulness of Tulum. In my opinion it can be the best way to vacation. September is hurricane season which means rainy season so I really took a risk in traveling to Tulum but the weather was great.  I feel like Tulum is a place that captivates the senses and leaves a mark on your heart. Which is why I decided to spend the first half of my birthday trip there. This wasn’t my first time in Tulum (I went in May for my sister’s birthday) I enjoyed it so much I had to go back. We embraced its natural wonders and forged unforgettable memories along the way.

One of the best things about my trip was my stay at Alea Tulum. Alea Tulum was where we called home for 3 days. This is just one of the three properties located in Tulum right along the beach. This budget hotel is ideally situated along the beautiful stretch of beach known for its turquoise waters and powdery white sand beaches. It offers guests a serene and private setting while still being within easy reach of Tulum town’s vibrant dining, shopping, and entertainment options. The hotel room that we stayed in was the penthouse suite which had it’s own private pool and balcony. I couldn’t get enough of that pool and the view of the beautiful beaches. It was the perfect place to relax. This room is definitely the best option in my opinion.

The on-site restaurant at Alea Tulum offers a culinary journey that combines traditional Mexican flavors with international influences. The menu showcases fresh and locally sourced ingredients, including seafood caught from nearby waters and organic produce. Guests can savor delicious dishes while enjoying picturesque views of the ocean. Breakfast was my favorite at the Alea Tulum on site restaurant. Small hotels with good food always get my utmost appreciation. It’s a great place to take in the view and enjoy some lovely cuisine.

Food recommendations: Alea Tulum

Plato de fruta / Fruit plate: each morning was a different surprise of fresh fruits! Everything from mango, pineapple, kiwi and dragonfruit was available.

Chilaquiles-with the green sauce:

Egg and chicken, green sauce, red onion, cream, cotija cheese, fresh cilantro

French Toast: cinnamon french toast served  with bananas, strawberries and blueberries that I had on the side

Alea Tulum is located between their sister hotels

Hotel Mereva Tulum and Hotel Nerea Tulum which both also have some great restaurant options.

Mereva Tulum, BSKY Restaurant Food Recommendation:

Wood Oven Pizza: Blue sky

Tomato sauce, mozzarella, fresh heirloom tomato, shrimp, avocado, cilantro

Mereva Tulum is known for there wood oven pizzas and I can see why. This pizza was so good and fresh. A must try!

Nerea Tulum, Umbal Restaurant Food Recommendation:

Crab cake: Artichoke, spinach, avocado mousse, chili dressing

Roasted Rock Cornish: Marinated in Rosemary and thyme smoke

Wrap: Nopal tortilla, grilled fish, coleslaw, beans, fresh Mexican sauce

Highly recommend, great option for some really good food.

Alea Tulum also has beach access and activities with direct access to Tulum’s stunning white-sand beaches, guests can easily spend their days lounging under the sun, swimming, or taking walks along the shoreline. The hotel can also arrange various water activities, such as paddle boarding and kayaking for free which makes for such a memorable Tulum trip.

The number one thing that I wanted to do in Tulum was Tulum Tower. Tulum Tower was so fun. We really had the best time. It’s basically a rotating bar in the sky with a view of the entire city. This is a great way to experience and visit Tulum. You get to enjoy food, drinks and music/karaoke while taking in a great view of Tulum. It makes for such a memorable experience. They have full menu and bar including tacos, ceviche, nachos and fajitas. During the ride you’ll hear about the rich Mayan history of Tulum. I would recommend going close to sunset for the best weather. The entire experience is 45mins long and also includes a quick photo op! The price is $985 MX or $55 USD. If you can get past being over 100 feet in the air I would highly recommend this unique experience.

Although we spent most of our time relaxing at the hotel Tulum has a very active downtown area, beach zone and lots to do and see. If you are in need of a taxi driver I recommend contacting my driver Francis, he’s a very kind local that can give you some great recommendations and get you where you need to go. Tell him that Jermany and Justine sent you!
